Amaryllis have large, bell-shaped or lily-like flowers and its hybrids make excellent cut flowers, garden plants, and potted plants.

Availability

Amaryllis is available from the Dutch auctions from October to the end of April.

Care and Handling

All buckets, vases and tools used to cut and re hydrate amaryllis must be clean and bacteria free. Professional cleaning agents such as Chrysal and Floralife are preferred over the traditional method of cleaning.

It is also beneficial to use a hydration pre treatment solution such as “Quickdip” to reduce chances of stem blockage for amaryllis.

Cut Stage

Amarylis are graded by number of blooms per stem from 2 to 5.

Amaryllis should be purchased with blooms showing good colour but not open.

Grades

All amaryllis should be tight and have no blemmishes on the petals. Hight can range from 40cm., 16" to 70cm., 28" tall.

Amaryllis flower diameter is no less than 21 cm long. Other attractive features include the upright flowers, sturdy stems.

Packing

Amaryllis are packed and shipped from Holland in small quarter boxes of 20 stems to a box.

Preparation

To process Amaryllis flowers first cut 1" from the bottom of the stem at an angle. Then dip the stem in a hydration solution such as Quick Dip. Finally place the stems in a bucket of room temperature flower food such as... Aquaplus or Floralife.
